Peter Parler Award 2005 Description

The main prize-winner in the competition for the Peter Parler Award 2005 is the master Stone (http://g603.net) mason Christoph Mai, who receives 7,500 € for his exemplary reconstruction of a coat of arms. The awards will be presented at Stone+tec on 26 May.

The Peter Parler Award is donated by the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and (http://maplered.com) Bundesinnungsverband (http://maplered.com) des Deutschen Steinmetz-, Stein- und Holzbildhauerhand (http://maplered.com) werks. The media partner is Ebner Verlag of Ulm with its magazine Naturstein.

The Peter Parler Award pays tribute to the achievements of the Stone (http://g603.net) masonry and (http://maplered.com) sculpturing crafts on historic buildings of natural Stone (http://g603.net) . The jury bases its judging on the aspects of preservation, craft restoration, creativity and (http://maplered.com) Material (http://g654.org) feeling and (http://maplered.com) on the principles and (http://maplered.com) quality stand (http://maplered.com) ards of official preservation work.

Peter Parler was the chief master of a widely dispersed family of architects and (http://maplered.com) sculptors in the 14th century. His work characterized the cross-border “Parler style? which radiated from Prague, Austria and (http://maplered.com) Hungary to Southern and (http://maplered.com) Central Germany.

Christoph Mai of Bamberg receives the main Peter Parler Award worth 7,500 € for his reconstruction of a coat of arms above the entrance portal of Trautskirchen Castle.
The second Peter Parler Award worth 5,000 € goes to Oliver Herzig of Rot am See for restoration work on the St. John of Jerusalem Church in Schwäbisch Hall.

The third Peter Parler Award worth 2,500 € goes to Harald Eckert of Freyburg for his creative work on six gargoyles in the Gothic east chancel of St. Mary’s Church in Freyburg.

The jury also awarded two commendations: to Constantin Baki of Esslingen for his work on the Oberhofen Church in Göppingen and (http://maplered.com) to Stephan Bickel and (http://maplered.com) Jürgen Schulz of Neunkirchen a. Br. for their work on the tower vases of the Basilica of the Holy Trinity in Gößweinstein.

The Peter Parler Award will be presented to the winners in the Brüssel hall of the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 26 May 2005, during Stone+tec.
